Scurt interviu

Aveti in continuare atat intrebarile cat si raspunsurile dansei:

1. Why should anyone read your books?

For literary pleasure.

2. Which book, out of those you've written, you think to be the best.

Because I hope I’m developing as a writer, I pray that my last book, Blame, is my best. It is my most technically proficient. But Jamesland, my second, is my most intellectually ambitious. And Round Rock has the most humor.

3. What book, out of those you have written, do you think a novice, one who hasn't read any of your work, should start with to get to know and understand your literary universe.

My first novel, Round Rock, is a good place to start. You can see my concerns—with addiction, God and community. Also, some of the characters in Round Rock show up in subsequent books.

4. What is more important for you: Reading or Writing?

My desire to write came directly from my extreme passion for reading. I don’t feel fully alive unless I am in the middle of reading a good book. If I had to choose, I would definitely, selfishly, lazily choose reading over writing. It is far easier to experience literary pleasure than it is to create it.

5. What are your favorite authors?

Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, Willa Cather, Henry James, Alice Munro, W.G. Sebald, Penelope Fitzgerald, Anton Chekhov

6. Have they influenced your works? Can their influence be traced in your books?

I hope their influences grace my work. Looking at the list, I see the common thread in all of them is a probing clarity.

Sa speram ca vom continua aceste serii de interviurii cu scriitori contemporani.
